Lily Rice is a Welsh athlete known for her achievements in both WCMX (wheelchair motocross) and para-swimming. Born on February 14, 2004, in Wales, she has made significant strides as a pioneering female wheelchair athlete.
Rice gained prominence after winning the WCMX World Championship and becoming the first European female to complete a backflip in a wheelchair. Her remarkable feats led to widespread recognition before she transitioned to para-swimming.
In 2022, representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Rice clinched the bronze medal – an achievement that marked Wales’ first swimming medal at the event. She competes despite having hereditary spastic paraplegia, which affects the muscles of her legs by causing tightness and weakness.
Her journey towards athletic success began at age ten when she started using a wheelchair. Initially introduced to aquatics through swimming lessons at Tenby Leisure Centre in Wales during childhood, Rice demonstrated early promise as an aquatic athlete.
As a wheelchair athlete, she is recognized for executing extreme tricks on specially adapted ramps typically used by BMX riders and skateboarders.
