About Liliuokalani
Liliuokalani was the last monarch and only Queen of the Hawaiian Islands, reigning from 1891 to 1893. She was born on September 2, 1838 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Before becoming queen, she studied at the Chiefs’ Children’s School and served as Crown Princess starting in 1874. In addition to her royal duties, Liliuokalani was an accomplished author and songwriter who played several instruments including the piano and ukele.
On September 16, 1862, she married John Dominis with whom she had two children: Lydia Aholo and Kaiponohea Ae’a.
Tragically, Liliuokalani was forced to relinquish her kingdom during the United States’ coup of the Hawaiian Islands in 1893.
