About Lidiya Skoblikova
Lidiya Skoblikova, born on March 8, 1939 in Zlatoust, Russia, is a renowned Russian speed skater who achieved great success during her career. She earned six Olympic gold medals, with four of them being secured during the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics.
Prior to her stardom, Skoblikova made an early mark by qualifying for the Soviet World Championships team at just 19 years old and finishing third in the National Championships. Notably, she clinched all four gold medals in the 500 meter, 1,000 meter, 1,500 meter and 3,000 meter events at the aforementioned Winter Games.
Beyond her athletic achievements, she has ties to other notable figure skaters – such as being related by marriage to Nataliya Polozkova.
