About Libby Riddles
Libby Riddles, born on April 1, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin, is a renowned dog musher and the first female to win the prestigious Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Apart from her racing achievements, she has also gained recognition as a champion sled dog breeder.
Riddles began her career in dog mushing in 1978 when she emerged victorious in the Clines Mini Mart Sprint. Her success at this race marked the beginning of an illustrious journey in the world of competitive dog sledding.
Following her historic win at the Iditarod, Riddles lived among Alaska’s indigenous communities for over five years. Raised by Mary and Willard Riddles in Wisconsin and Minnesota, she later moved to Alaska during her late teens. In Teller, Alaska, she found a home with Joe Garnie who shared her passion for training and breeding exceptional sled dogs.
