About Libbie Henrietta Hyman
Libbie Henrietta Hyman (December 6, 1888 – August 3, 1969) was an American zoologist known for her widely-used texts on vertebrate and invertebrate animals. Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph Hyman, a Polish-Russian immigrant, she developed an early interest in botany before turning her focus to zoology at the University of Chicago.
Hyman noticed a lack of comprehensive textbooks during her studies and took it upon herself to address this need. She authored several works on invertebrates, including a six-volume series that remained unfinished. In addition to her writing, she served as the editor of the journal Systematic Zoology from 1959 to 1963.
Her contributions have had a lasting impact on the field of zoology and continue to be influential today.
