About Leonie Adams
Leonie Adams (December 9, 1899 – June 27, 1988) was an American poet, author, editor, and the seventh United States Poet Laureate. Born in New York City, her notable poetry collections include “This Measure,” “Midsummer,” and the Bollingen Prize-winning “Poems: A Selection.”
Adams’ literary career began early when her first poetry collection, “Those Not Elect,” was published while she was still a teenager. She later married William Troy, a professor and fellow writer, in 1933. An interesting anecdote about Adams is that she once shared tea with Gertrude Stein in Paris.
