About Lauren Morelli
Lauren Morelli is a screenwriter and producer known for her work on the popular Netflix series Orange is the New Black. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1982, she initially pursued a career in dance after studying at Marymount Manhattan College. However, a back injury led her to shift her focus to writing.
Besides working in television, Morelli is also a playwright and is recognized for “Roach & Rat,” which was featured in Lesser America’s production of Just Right Just Now. Openly lesbian, she came out while writing for Orange is the New Black and subsequently filed for divorce from her then-husband before entering into a relationship with actress Samira Wiley; the two were married in 2017.
