About Lauren Drain Kagan
Lauren Drain Kagan, born on December 31, 1985 in Tampa, Florida, is a well-known fitness model, nurse and author. She gained recognition for her memoirs chronicling her time as a member of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church. Expelled from the church, this experience is documented in her book Banished.
At the age of 16 she began working full-time in healthcare and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing from Washburn University in 2007. Her book Banished debuted on the New York Times Bestsellers eBook list on March 30, 2013; that same year she joined the NOH8 campaign to combat the rhetoric of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Lauren was indoctrinated into the Westboro Baptist Church by birth as her family were prior members. Following her expulsion from the church, her parents, brother and sister have since cut all ties with her.
