About Lauren Child
Lauren Child (born November 29, 1965) is a British writer and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She received the Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association for her book “I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato.” Child has gained popular acclaim for her Charlie and Lola picture books as well as her Clarice Bean picture book and novel series.
Prior to her success as an author, Lauren Child attended Marlborough College, Manchester Polytechnic, and the City and Guilds of London Art School. She first established herself by founding a lampshade company called Chandeliers for the People before working at design agency Big Fish.
A noteworthy achievement in Child’s career includes writing all six books in the Ruby Redfort series between 2011 and 2015. Born Helen Child in London, England, she was raised in Wiltshire where both of her parents worked in education. Her father served as head of the art department at Marlborough College while her mother worked as a teacher. Lauren was one of three daughters
