About Laura Riding
Laura Riding, born on January 16, 1901 in New York, was an American poet, author, and literary critic. She is best known for her works including The Life of the Dead, A Trojan Ending, and Under the Mind’s Watch. As a modernist writer, she was associated with the Tennessee-based Fugitive group of poets.
Before gaining fame as a poet and author, Laura Riding was born Laura Reichenthal to Austrian-Jewish immigrants. She remained in New York throughout her college years and studied at Cornell University.
In 1927, she attempted suicide. Throughout her life ,she married Louis R. Gottschalk had an extramarital affair with poet Robert Graves before later marrying Schuyler Jackson.
