Laura Canales, born on August 19th, 1954 in Texas, was a renowned World Music Singer and a pioneer of Tejano music. She was honored with an induction into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame for her influential contributions to the genre.
Prior to gaining fame as a singer, Canales received encouragement from her high school choir teacher to pursue songwriting. This led her to start performing and eventually achieve success with a hit cover of “Midnight Blue.”
During her career, she accumulated numerous accolades for her singing prowess, including esteemed titles such as Female Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year in 1981.
Canales grew up in Kingsville, Texas which is located in close proximity to Corpus Christi – a town known for its ranching heritage.
