About Kornelia Ender
Kornelia Ender is a German swimmer, born on October 25, 1958. She is known for her remarkable achievements in swimming.
In 1976, she made history by becoming the first female swimmer to win four gold medals at a single Olympics.
Prior to this, she had already displayed great talent by winning three silver medals at the 1972 Olympics when she was only 13 years old.
Her success was clouded by suspicion of steroid use during the 1976 Olympics, leading to scrutiny of East German doctors as well.
Ender has been married twice – first to Olympic champion Roland Matthes for six years and later to track and field and bobsledding athlete Steffen Grummt.
