Kiri Te Kanawa is a renowned New Zealand soprano singer born on March 6, 1944 in Gisborne, New Zealand. She has achieved acclaim for her work as an opera singer and has performed in notable productions such as The Marriage of Figaro with the Santa Fe Opera and Leonard Bernstein’s version of West Side Story.
Before rising to fame, Te Kanawa was adopted by Maori parents and received her education at Saint Mary’s College Auckland. In 1977, she made a significant mark on her career by taking on the lead role in Arabella with the Houston Grand Opera.
In her personal life, Te Kanawa married Desmond Park on August 30, 1967 but they divorced in 1997.
