About Katie Smith
Katie Smith is a former professional basketball player born on June 4, 1974, in Lancaster, Ohio. She has had a successful career as an All-Star WNBA guard and achieved notable accomplishments such as winning a WNBA title and being named the WNBA Finals MVP with the Detroit Shock in 2008. Throughout her professional career, she played for more than five different teams and also transitioned into coaching roles with the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx.
Prior to her professional career, Smith excelled in college basketball and was recognized as the Big Ten MVP during her senior year at Ohio State University. In addition to her success in the WNBA, she also represented the Women’s U.S. national team at the Olympics, winning gold medals in 2000, 2004, and 2008.
Smith’s contributions to basketball were further acknowledged when she was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
