About Kathryn Harrison
Kathryn Harrison, born on March 20, 1961 in California, is an autobiographer and acclaimed author known for works such as The Kiss and The Mother Knot. Her novels include The Seal Wife; A Thousand Orange Trees; Thicker Than Water; and Envy.
She received a bachelor’s degree in Art History and English from Stanford University before earning an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop.
Harrison had troubled relationships with her parents which heavily influenced her work. She has written extensively about family conflicts and themes of incest.
She settled in New York City with her husband Colin Harrison, also a writer from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where they have three children. Kathryn has taught creative writing at Hunter College – City University of New York.
