About Katharine Burr Blodgett

Katharine Burr Blodgett (1898-01-10) was an American inventor and physicist from Schenectady, New York. She held numerous U.S. patents, most notably for the invention of low-reflectance invisible glass while working for General Electric.

Blodgett received an academic scholarship to Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 1917. She went on to become the first woman awarded a Ph.D in Physics from the University of Cambridge.

She lived in a “Boston marriage” with Gertrude Brown, and is remembered as both a pioneering entrepreneur and a respected member of the scientific community.
