About Kate DiCamillo
Kate DiCamillo (born March 25, 1964) is an American children’s author known for her acclaimed works such as Because of Winn-Dixie and the Newbery Medal-winning The Tale of Despereaux. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she later moved to Florida at the age of five. After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in English in 1987, DiCamillo worked for a book warehouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota before publishing her first novel.
DiCamillo has also authored the Mercy Watson series and Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures. In 2006, she received the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Fiction for her novel The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
Her brother, Curt DiCamillo, became a successful architectural historian.
