About Karin Buttner-Janz
Karin Buttner-Janz was a German former Olympic gymnast who was born on February 17, 1952. She achieved significant success in her career and won gold medals in the vault and uneven bars at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Additionally, she received the East German Sportswoman of the Year Award in both 1967 and 1972.
Before gaining recognition at the Olympics, Buttner-Janz made her mark on the European gymnastics scene by earning a bronze medal in the vault at the European Championships in 1967.
Following her retirement from gymnastics, she transitioned to a medical career and eventually became Chief Physician at Vivantes hospital. Her father, Guido, served as her first gymnastics coach.
