Karen Bass was born on October 3, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. She is a Democrat who has served as a prominent politician, representing California’s 37th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2013. Bass also made history by becoming the second woman to serve as Speaker of the California State Assembly.
Before entering politics, she worked as a physician’s assistant at USC Keck School of Medicine after earning a B.S. in health sciences from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1990. From 2004 to 2010, she held office as a member of the California State Assembly from the forty-seventh district.
Bass was previously married to Jesus Lechuga and continues to make significant contributions within her political career.
