Kamila Valieva is a Russian figure skater who made headlines in 2020 when she was crowned World Junior champion, the 2019-20 Junior Grand Prix Final champion and the 2020 Russian junior national champion. However, her success wasn’t without controversy – during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine she was banned from world championships. Before she even turned five years old her mother had already enrolled her for classes in gymnastics, ballet and figure skating. Valieva also happens to be teammates with Alexandra Trusova, Anna Shcherbakova and Alena Kostornaia. She is of Tatar descent and has a pet Pomeranian named Leva. Her biggest role model is Nathan Chen – one of the best figure skaters around!
