About Kala
Kala is a renowned choreographer born on April 5, 1971, in Chennai, India. She is best known for her work in films such as Punnagai Mannan, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, and Chandramukhi.
Her career also includes directing dance reality shows, notably Maanada Mayilada for nine seasons. Kala’s passion for dance began early – she dropped out of school to pursue a career in the film industry and made her debut as an assistant choreographer at the age of 12 in 1982.
In addition to her impressive film and television work, Kala has achieved significant recognition throughout her career. Notably, she received a special award of excellence for choreographing the Miss World 1996 Beauty Pageant and won the National Film Award for Best Choreography in 2000 for her folk dance choreography in the film Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal.
Born into a family with seven girls in Chennai’s modest surroundings, Kala’s commitment to dance has been deeply rooted since childhood. Her influence extends beyond herself; several of her siblings have also pursued careers as choreographers or dancers.
In personal life, Kala married Venhat in 2004 with whom she welcomed their son in 2007.
