Judy Martz (born July 28, 1943) is a Republican politician who served as the first female governor of Montana from 2001 to 2005. Prior to entering politics, she represented the United States in the women’s speed skating competition at the 1964 Olympics. Martz’s tenure as governor saw significant increases in the education budget of Montana, marking it as the largest single raise in history.
In addition to her role as governor, Martz made history again by becoming Montana’s first female Lieutenant Governor in 1996. She and her husband Harry co-owned a garbage disposal service and raised two children together.
