About Judy Grahn
Judy Grahn is a feminist poet and nonfiction author known for works such as “Blood, Bread, and Roses: How Menstruation Created the World,” “Edward the Dyke and Other Poems,” and “The Queen of Swords.” She was born on July 28, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. Before gaining recognition for her literary accomplishments, she joined the United States Air Force but was discharged at age twenty-one due to her homosexual orientation.
Grahn’s contributions to literature have earned her prestigious awards including the Lambda Literary Award and the American Book Award. Additionally, she has taught at institutions such as the New College of California and at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology. Although born in Chicago, Grahn spent most of her youth in the New Mexico desert.
