About Judy Blume
Judy Blume, born on February 12, 1938 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, is an American children’s author known for her popular novels such as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and SuperFudge. Her books, aimed at adolescent readers, tackle taboo topics including menstruation, masturbation, and bullying.
Prior to gaining literary fame, Blume began her college education at Boston University before graduating from New York University’s teacher training program. Her first book, The One in the Middle Is the Green Kangaroo was published in 1969 while her children were still preschoolers.
Blume is particularly recognized for her work Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.
In terms of personal life she married John Blume in 1959 but later divorced in 1976. She married Thomas Kitchens from 1976 to 1978 and then George Cooper in 1987. She has two sons named Randy and Lawrence.
