About Judith Ortiz Cofer
Judith Ortiz Cofer was a Puerto Rican short story writer, essayist, young adult novelist, and poet. She is best known for her works of creative nonfiction such as the memoir “The Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood” published in 1990. Cofer also wrote “The Line of the Sun” and “The Latin Deli.”
Cofer frequently traveled between Puerto Rico and New Jersey before settling in Atlanta, Georgia during her high school years. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Augusta College and later went on to receive a graduate degree in English from Florida Atlantic University.
Ortiz found inspiration for her storytelling abilities from her grandmother’s oral narratives while growing up. This influence greatly shaped her style of writing.
