Joy Cowley Feet

Joy Cowley, born on August 7, 1936 in Levin, New Zealand, is a renowned children’s author, novelist and short story writer. Her most notable works in children’s literature include The Silent One (1981) and Bow Down Shadrach (1991). Additionally, her novels for adults such as Man of Straw (1972) and The Growing Season (1979) often center around family struggles.

Prior to gaining fame as an author, Cowley was born Cassia Joy Summers and later received an honorary doctorate from Massey University. Notably, she published five hundred reading instruction books and actively participated in teaching reading skills to children and the learning disabled.

Cowley has been married three times – to Ted Cowley, Malcolm Mason, and Terry Coles – while being blessed with two sons and two daughters.
