Joni Ernst is an American politician born on July 1, 1970 in Red Oak, Iowa. She currently holds the occupation of a Politician. Ernst gained political experience by serving a three-year term in the Iowa State Senate and was later elected as a United States Senator from Iowa. As a member of the Republican Party, she made history as the first female to represent her home state of Iowa in either the House or the Senate.

Prior to her political career, Ernst earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from Columbus College. She also served as a lieutenant colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard and spent time in Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Known for her strong conservative beliefs, Ernst has been an advocate for gun owner rights, opposed abortion and same-sex marriage; additionally proposing eliminating both the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Education.

Ernst was born and raised in Red Oak, Iowa where she currently resides with her husband Gail who serves as U.S. Army Major, along with their daughter Libby .
