Johanne Defay is a French surfing superstar. At just 8 years old, she started shredding waves on Reunion island and by 10 was already competing. In 2014, she made major waves (pun intended) when she was crowned Rookie of the Year for the Women’s World Championship Tour. She also scored first place in both the Vans US Open of Surfing and Fiji Womens Pro competitions – no small feat! Her dad was also a surfer, so it’s probably safe to say that Johanne comes from good wave-riding stock. Along with Marco Mignot, they’re two of France’s most famous surfers.
