About Johanna Hurwitz
Johanna Hurwitz (born October 9, 1937) is a renowned children’s author from New York. She has written dozens of acclaimed children’s books, including fiction works such as Magical Monty and The Adventures of Ali Baba, as well as biographies of historical and artistic figures like Anne Frank and Leonard Bernstein.
When she was ten years old, Hurwitz published a poem expressing her love for books. Nearly three decades later, while working as a librarian, she published her debut children’s book titled Busybody Nora. Her book The Just Desserts Club includes both recipes and short fiction pieces.
Hurwitz hails from New York City and comes from a family with a passion for literature. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Queens College and a master’s degree in library science from Columbia University. Her marriage resulted in two children, who served as inspirations for her Riverside Kids series.
