About Joan Taylor
Joan Taylor, born on August 18, 1929 in Illinois, was a TV actress best known for her role as Milly Scott in the early 1960s television series The Rifleman. She also made guest appearances on series such as The Texan and Gunsmoke and appeared in several Western movies of the 1950s including Apache Woman; Fort Yuma; War Drums.
Prior to her acting career, Taylor performed in stage productions at Southern California’s Pasadena Playhouse before making her big screen debut in Fighting Man of the Plains in 1949.
Aside from acting, she co-wrote the film Fools Rush In with Katherine Reback and came from a family rooted in entertainment – daughter of Austrian-born Vaudevillian Amelia Berky and Italian-born movie theater manager Joseph Emma. She was married to Hawaii Five-O creator Leonard Freeman from 1953 until his death in 1974 during which they raised three daughters; after his passing she briefly married director Walter Grauman.
