About Joan Mondale
Joan Mondale, born on August 8, 1930 in Eugene, Oregon, was the wife of Walter Mondale, who served as the forty-second Vice President of the United States. During her time as Second Lady, she transformed the Vice Presidential Mansion into a display of American art and earned the nickname “Joan of Art.” Prior to this role, she graduated from Macalester College and held positions at both the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Minneapolis Institute of Art. She met her husband through a blind date arranged by a classmate. Together they had three children: Theodore, Eleanor and William.
