Joan Leslie, born on January 26, 1925, in Highland Park, Michigan, was a prominent movie actress known for her work in numerous films during the 1940s and early 1950s. Notably, she portrayed Velma in the 1941 film noir “High Sierra,” Mary Cohan in the 1942 musical “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and Gracie Williams in the Alvin York biopic “Sergeant York.”
Prior to fame, Joan made uncredited appearances in films such as “Camille” (1936) and “Men with Wings” (1938) during her childhood years. She received the Golden Boot Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Western film genre in 2006.
