Jill Murphy (born July 5, 1949) is an English novelist, best known for her popular “Worst Witch” series. Born in London, England, Murphy has written over 20 published books and gained recognition for her picture book series “Large Family,” which revolves around a family of elephants.
She began writing while in school, with her first novel being published when she was twenty-four. One of her acclaimed children’s books, The Last Noo Noo won the Smarties Prize, the Sheffield Children’s Book Award, and the Gateshead Gold Award. Apart from the “Worst Witch” series, she has also authored three novels.
Murphy has one son named Charlie.
