She’s been an educator for much of her life and before becoming First Lady she was a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College. Before that, she was working as a waitress at the Jersey Shore. After enrolling in a junior college in Pennsylvania to study fashion merchandising, she eventually got married to Joe Biden in 1977 and they have one daughter together. When he became Vice President, Jill became the first Second Lady to hold down a paying job while her partner served as VP. Together with Michelle Obama, she’s also done important work providing aid to military families across America.
