About Jhumpa Lahiri
Jhumpa Lahiri, born on July 11, 1967 in London, England, is a novelist known for her award-winning work. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for her debut collection of short stories titled “Interpreter of Maladies.” Her first novel, “The Namesake,” was adapted into a successful film in 2007 and starred actors Kal Penn and Irrfan Khan.
Before gaining fame as an author, Lahiri obtained a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Boston University and received the prestigious O. Henry Award early in her career. Her second short story collection, “Unaccustomed Earth,” achieved the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list.
Born to Indian immigrant parents in London but raised in the United States, Lahiri married Alberto Vourvoulias-Bush in 2001. They have a daughter named Noor and a son named Octavio.
