About Jessica Pimentel
Jessica Pimentel (born September 20, 1982) is an American TV actress known for her role as Maria Ruiz in the popular Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and is also recognized as the frontwoman of the heavy metal band Alekhine’s Gun.
Before rising to fame, Pimentel attended New York’s High School of Performing Arts where she showcased her musical talent by playing the violin. Her acting career took off with her first notable film role as Angelique Domenguez in 2008’s Pride and Glory.
Pimentel hails from a Dominican background; her parents immigrated to New York City from La Romana, Dominican Republic. Growing up, she faced familial challenges including her parents’ divorce and estrangement from her father. In 2013, she became engaged to drummer Tomas Haake.
