Jessamyn West was an American novelist and short story writer, born on July 18, 1902, in Vernon, Indiana. She is best known for her works including The Friendly Persuasion and A Mirror for the Sky.
Before gaining recognition as a writer, West graduated from Whittier College with a degree in English and pursued a career in teaching. Her novel The Friendly Persuasion was adapted into a film featuring Gary Cooper.
In 1923, she married Harry Maxwell McPherson.
