About Jess Phillips
Jess Phillips (born October 9, 1981) is an English politician who has served as a Member of Parliament for the Birmingham Yardley district. A member of the Labour Party, she also held the position of Parliamentary Private Secretary to Lucy Powell in September 2015.
Before entering politics, Phillips studied economic and social history at the University of Leeds before earning her post-graduate degree in public sector management from the University of Birmingham. She began her career working for the Women’s Aid Federation of England in 2010.
In addition to her political career, Phillips is also a writer and published her first book Everywoman: One Woman’s Truth About Speaking The Truth through Penguin Books in February 2017.
Born and raised in Birmingham, England, she is married to Tom Phillips and together they have two sons.
