About Jerrie Mock
Jerrie Mock was an American pilot born on November 22, 1925, in Ohio. She made history as the first female aviator to fly solo around the world. In March and April of 1964, she completed this significant achievement in a single-engine Cessna 180.
Mock later documented her journey in the book “Three-Eight Charlie,” published six years after her historic flight. Her interest in aviation began at a young age when she fell in love with flying after riding in the cockpit of a small airplane at seven years old.
After graduating from high school, Mock pursued her passion for aviation by enrolling in Ohio State University’s aeronautical engineering program. The aircraft she piloted during her notable flight was nicknamed “The Spirit of Columbus” and is now displayed at Virginia’s National Air and Space Museum.
Born Geraldine Fredritz and raised in Newark, Ohio, Mock married Russell Mock and raised three children while continuing to pursue her career as an accomplished aviator.
