Jeannette Walls, born on April 21, 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona, is a memoirist known for her acclaimed 2005 New York Times bestselling memoir The Glass Castle. She also gained recognition for writing a popular gossip column for MSNBC.com. In 2009, she published her debut work of fiction titled Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel.Prior to her literary career, Walls and her siblings experienced homelessness during their youth and lived in various states including Arizona, California, Nevada, and West Virginia. Later on, she moved to New York City and obtained an honors degree from Barnard College.Walls began her writing journey as an intern at the Brooklyn-based newspaper The Phoenix.

Her personal life includes being previously married to Eric Goldberg from 1988 to 1996 before settling down with her second husband and fellow journalist John Taylor in Virginia.
