About Jean Webster
Jean Webster was an American novelist born on July 24, 1876, in Fredonia, New York. She is best known for her works Dear Enemy (1915) and Daddy-Long-Legs (1912), both featuring young female protagonists.
Before gaining recognition as a writer, she studied English and economics at Vassar College and published her first novel, When Patty Went to College, in 1903. Interestingly, Jean Webster was actually born Alice Jane Chandler Webster; the former name served as her pen name.
In 1915, she married attorney Glenn Ford McKinney but tragically passed away while giving birth to their daughter the following year.
