Jean Smith (born August 1, 1959) is a Canadian rock singer known for her influence in the riot grrrl movement. She is best recognized as the front-woman for the band Mecca Normal and has also established herself as a painter, novelist, and filmmaker.
Prior to gaining fame in the music industry, Smith worked for a Vancouver-based newspaper. She has received notable recognition for her creative work, including Canada Council for the Arts awards for creative writing in 2000 and 2006.
