Jean Shepard, born on November 21, 1933 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, was a prominent country singer known for her impressive discography of seventy-three hit singles. Before rising to fame, she honed her skills as a bass player in the band Melody Ranch Girls during her teenage years and was signed by Capitol Records in 1952 after being discovered by Hank Thompson.Shepard’s influential career culminated in her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. She faced personal tragedy with the loss of her first husband, fellow country singer Hawkshaw Hawkins and two others- Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas- who died together in a plane crash. The couple had two sons together including one whom she was pregnant with at the time of his father’s tragic passing. Later on she remarried Benny Birchfield.
