About Jane Pierce
Jane Pierce, born on March 12th, 1806 in New Hampshire, served as the First Lady of the United States from 1853 to 1857 while her husband Franklin was President. Unfortunately, she lived a tragic life following the deaths of all three of her young children. Jane Pierce moved into her grandparents’ mansion after losing her father at thirteen and shared a close relationship with her brother-in-law Alpheus S. Packard, who taught her at Bowdoin College. Notably, Jane strongly disliked Washington D.C., and when she learned about her husband’s nomination for President, she fainted as she did not want him to remain in politics.
