About Jane Goodall
Jane Goodall, born on April 3, 1934 in London, England, is a renowned British primatologist and anthropologist known for her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in East Africa. She gained widespread recognition for her work and was appointed as a UN Messenger of Peace. In addition to her scientific contributions, she has also been involved with the Nonhuman Rights Project.
Goodall’s fascination with apes began in childhood when she received a lifelike chimpanzee toy from her father. This early exposure ignited her passion for studying and understanding these creatures.
Throughout her impressive career spanning over four decades, Goodall observed that chimpanzees possess distinct personalities and exhibit complex emotions including joy and sorrow. She noted their capacity for rational thought and documented behaviors such as hugs, kisses, pats on the back, and even tickling.
In terms of personal life, Goodall married Baron Hugo van Lawick in 1964; however they divorced in 1974. Subsequently, she wed Derek Bryceson in 1975. Her son Hugo Eric Louis is known by the nickname “Grub.”
