Jackie Collins (1937-10-04) was a British novelist known for her steamy romance novels, many of which appeared on the New York Times bestsellers list. Born in London, England, she began her career as an actress in British B-movies after being expelled from school at age fifteen. Her first novel, The World Is Full of Married Men (1968), was considered scandalous and banned in South Africa and Australia.
Many of Collins’ novels were adapted into films, and she wrote the screenplays for some of them. She received inspiration for her work from personal experiences, including alleged sexual encounters with actor Marlon Brando when she was just fifteen years old.
Collins came from a showbiz family; her older sister Joan Collins was an accomplished actress. Jackie Collins married Wallace Austin and Oscar Lerman before giving birth to three children during the 1960s.
