About Irene Schweizer
Irene Schweizer is a Swiss pianist born on June 2, 1941. She is well-known for her improvisational free-jazz style and has gained international fame as a female jazz pioneer.
Schweizer started playing the piano at the age of 12 and later picked up the drums. She was involved with the Feminist Improvising Group, which later changed its name to the European Women’s Improvising Group.
Her father operated a restaurant that also served as a performance venue for dance bands.
