About Irene McCormack
Irene McCormack was an Australian missionary, born on August 21, 1938. She is best known for her dedicated work with the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart in Peru. Tragically, she was murdered by members of a Peruvian Communist guerrilla group.
Before her missionary work, McCormack had a successful teaching career spanning three decades in Australia after joining the Sisters of St. Joseph at nineteen years old. Her passion for helping others led her to begin her missionary work in Peru during the late 1980s.
Aside from her professional life, McCormack was also an avid amateur tennis player and golfer. She hailed from Kununoppin, a farming town in western Australia and attended boarding school in Attadale.
