About Inge Auerbacher
Inge Auerbacher, born on December 31, 1934 in Kippenheim, Germany, is a renowned memoirist famous for her accounts as both a chemist and a Holocaust survivor. She has authored several memoirs including Beyond the Yellow Star to America and I Am a Star: Child of the Holocaust.
Before gaining recognition through her writing endeavors, Auerbacher’s life took an arduous turn during World War II when she was imprisoned at the Terezin concentration camp from 1942 until 1945. Remarkably, she was one of the one percent who survived the ordeal at the camp.
Following her liberation from Nazi camps by the Red Army in 1945 along with some family members, Auerbacher immigrated to the United States in 1946 and later became an American citizen. She continued her education and eventually graduated from Queens College, City University of New York before embarking on a successful four-decade career as a chemist.
