Ilona Kabos Feet

Ilona Kabos (born December 7, 1893) was a Hungarian pianist known for her significant educational impact. She trained many future famous pianists, including Alan Weiss and David Oei. Prior to her fame, she studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music under the tutelage of Arpad Szendy, a pupil of Franz Liszt.

One notable aspect of Kabos’ teaching style was her penchant for providing extensive notes to her students. Described as writing “bold directions in red crayon, right across the page, in huge letters,” one student recounted how she would add gratuitous slashes to emphasize certain points.

Kabos married fellow Hungarian pianist Louis Kentner; however, despite their musical partnership, some considered her to possess the greater talent. Their marriage ended in 1945 when Kentner left her.
